Worldschooling Afloat: A Sail Training Expedition for Families
Set sail with a family you can trust — and give your kids an adventure they’ll carry for life.
Morse Alpha Expeditions is now offering sail training expeditions designed specifically for worldschooling families. More than just hopping on a boat with a friend, this is a professionally crewed, safety-first experience led by licensed captains who are also experienced educators — and worldschooling parents themselves.

Why Morse Alpha?
- US Coast Guard Licensed Captains — Ben and Teresa Carey each hold active captain’s licenses and all required endorsements
- Vessel Compliance — Our boat meets US and international requirements for small passenger vessels, including USCG commercial vessel requirements and SOLAS
- Professional Maritime Credentials — STCW certification, first aid training, and additional safety licensing
- 50+ Years Combined Experience — Decades of professional work in the maritime industry
- Experienced Educators — Both Ben and Teresa have taught in middle and high school settings; and leadership and experiential programs for teens and adults such as Outward Bound
- A Worldschooling Family Ourselves — We understand the rhythms, values, and goals of traveling families because we are one
What You’ll Learn
Depending on your interests and the length of your expedition, your family can gain hands-on experience in:
- Coastal and celestial navigation
- Sailing skills and seamanship
- Engine operation and maintenance
- Cooking aboard
- Communication and leadership
More Than Sailing
Beyond the boat, we explore the places we visit together — tidepools, coastlines, and historic and cultural sites — turning every stop into a living classroom.

Growing Together
Families consistently tell us the experience transforms how they work together. Our program is designed to bring children into the daily life of the vessel as capable, contributing crew members — not just passengers. Kids step up, take on real responsibilities, and discover they can be trusted with meaningful work. It’s common to see families leave with stronger communication, deeper teamwork, and a shared sense of accomplishment.
A Typical Day
Each day blends structure and freedom:
