The active process of plotting your course and pos The active process of plotting your course and position on a chart in contrast to the passive watching of an icon on a screen is at the very heart of what it means to be situationally aware. The plotting process is not complicated at all, but it takes active engagement. This simple, repeated process is what makes you a better sailor, navigator, planner, and is the fuel that propels your mission of gaining confidence and developing seamanship. 
As paper charts disappear from existence, how can we best stay engaged and active in the navigation process that equals or surpasses the benefits of plotting on paper?

A full day of fog, ends with a search for a nun, a A full day of fog, ends with a search for a nun, a slight lift, and a sunset. We’re anchored in Medway Hbr, NS. It was a beautiful spot for the 20 minutes that the fog cleared. We’re socked in again for the evening.
