NEW EXPEDITION ADDED: This lengthy passage through NEW EXPEDITION ADDED: This lengthy passage through the Mediterranean Sea (over 1000nm!) packs a lot into a short time frame. We will be traversing over half the Med—the entire Amalfi Coast, The Strait of Messina, crossing the Ionian Sea, and exploring both The Cyclades and The Dodecanese islands of Greece. We’ll find stops along the way to rest, explore, and soak in the history, culture and cuisine. There will be multi-day passages to plan, opportunities to anchor, and Med Moor. This will be the perfect combination of real passage making and real Med cruising.

2016… started off in St. Martin, and ended in Main 2016… started off in St. Martin, and ended in Maine. It was our second year owning ROCINANTE and the business. She looked a lot different back then. We found @johnkretschmersailing and shared our new film’s DVD with him. We explored the windward islands, made some @sailrite repairs, played in the BVIs. We sailed north to the Bahamas, sailed the @portlandpudgydinghy around. We still had Dory our cat. We continued north towards Maine via NYC. We took a short break to fly to Belize to conduct dolphin research with our non profit Hello Ocean. Maine welcomed us home with some Maine Mud Masks. It was a pretty good year.

We talk with @mahinaexpeditions John Neal about bo We talk with @mahinaexpeditions John Neal about boats, outfitting, insurance, upgrades, boat fatigue, refits, Europe, generators, etc etc etc! It’s a great episode. #themorningmusterpodcast
John: A lot of people are starting this when they’re not 30 years old. They’re 50 years old or 60 years old. And what I see is the chance if you buy a 35 or 40-year-old boat. Like, your boat. If you bought that boat today and you were 60 years old, the chance of you getting all the refit done and still having health and energy and money once you’re done to go cruising, it’s probably gonna take several years to get that boat up to safe specs for offshore.
The chance of you’re going cruising just diminishes so much. And so I’m really about encouraging people to be realistic in their purchase, not spending 90% of their total budget on the boat purchase. And,  newer is almost always better. Not always, but in most instances, newer is better.
Teresa: Yeah, and I think about that too because we, we looked at a ton of boats and you are saying new is better, but not always because if you’re buying an old boat, someone owned that previous to you or maybe multiple owners, and however they maintained it is, is gonna reflect on the quality of that boat.
The center of the universe. When you live aboard 4 The center of the universe. When you live aboard 45’, the galley, companionway, and nav desk are the epicenter of decisions and actions. Bob Perry’s beautiful, bright, open design of the #norseman447 was revolutionary for a nearly flush deck center cockpit. All perfectly usable space, with everything you need, and nothing more.
