There’s much debate over which sealant or no seala There’s much debate over which sealant or no sealant. Ours, 11 years later… looking great so far. When I check back in the records, I see we used Life Caulk for these @stalokterminals. No UV protection, but still flexible. We will probably use 4000UV this time. What’s your sealant of choice, or are dry? 👇
Another #MorningMusterPodcast episode packed with Another #MorningMusterPodcast episode packed with useful tips and advice… Thinking about planning a bareboat charter? This episode gives you sharp, practical tips to make your charter more efficient, fun, and far less stressful. Two pro instructors share their insights: when to DIY and when to call the base, what to actually pack (hint: leave the tools at home), and why a recommended skipper can be “the cheapest insurance policy you’ll ever get.” Learn how to present a convincing sailing resume, which certifications matter, and when coastal complexity or local licensing should change your plan.

Get concrete advice on: quick troubleshooting vs. hands-off repairs, team-building day-one routines, provisioning surprises and creative onboard cooking, and dialing in your expectations so you sail more and motor less. You’ll hear: “If they’re suggesting a skipper, they’re suggesting it for a reason,” and “Experience is the best teacher, but not always best practice.” From family charters to first-time catamaran trips and picking ideal regions, this is a chartering toolbox for sailors who want smarter, safer, and more relaxing charters.

We’ve been down in FL for STCW Basic Training refr We’ve been down in FL for STCW Basic Training refresher this week. This course is required every 5 years. Sailing from Halifax to Rockland, off the southern Sailing from Halifax to Rockland, off the southern coast of Nova Scotia. We run 6hr watches during the day and 4hr watches at night. It works well for our crew of 6 running a two watch system. It’s the schedule I learned at @sea_education_association and the one that always made the most sense to me. Each watch gets 6 hrs of rest during the day and this schedule dogs itself. While we usually keep the watch schedule fairly consistent throughout the passage, if it’s not working for some reason, we adapt.

We take the 88lb anchor right off the bow for pass We take the 88lb anchor right off the bow for passages. It saves a lot of wear and tear on the rollers and the fittings up forward. It also alleviates worry and the need to go forward and secure the anchor if it were to come loose in big seas. For us it’s a good lesson in using the available tools to get jobs done safely and efficiently. Do you remove your anchor before a passage?
