Head Up: A Webinar Series for Women

Head Up with Captain Teresa Carey and guest instructors is an interactive webinar series designed especially for women who want to boost their confidence in the fundamental aspects of sailing and cruising. You’ll learn from Teresa and other strong female sailors and industry experts. Unlike large and impersonal webinars, this course is only open to 8 participants, so you can be assured to get personalized attention, great conversation, and a sense of shared camaraderie with your coursemates. We want to see you and talk face to face! The five-part series will explore fundamental cruising topics that will give you a head-start before the sailing season begins. At the end of the course, join a happy hour to “talk sailing” with other amazing female sailors. There are bonus features and videos, so you can continue your education after the program ends. The cost is $200 for the entire series and bonus materials.

Presenters

Teresa Carey is a US Coast Guard licensed captain, writer, and educator. She has worked aboard a variety of sailboats from dinghies to schooners as an educator, delivery crew, and charter-boat captain. She taught for sea programs such as Outward Bound, and has also been a Marine Science educator. Teresa met her husband Ben when she was sailing solo for a few years between Maine and the Bahamas. She has given inspiring talks, such as her 2011 TED talk or 2012 National Women’s Sailing Association Keynote Speaker Address. She is the co-owner of Morse Alpha Expeditions, a coastal and offshore sail-training program in the Atlantic.

Mary “Molly” Eddy grew up on the shores of Penobscot Bay. Growing up steeped in maritime culture, and having a strong desire to travel led her to boats, boat yards, yachting, and eventually Maine Maritime Academy. Molly has worked in nearly every part of the maritime industry. From McAllister’s tugs in Virginia, to educational tall ships in the Pacific, to the Maine wooden boat scene. The overarching theme has been the passing on of knowledge and wonder. Molly is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Marine Transportation Department at Maine Maritime Academy. She also owns and operates Eddy Maritime Services, which helps private boat owners get more enjoyment out of their boats by getting to know them better.

Behan Gifford sailed south from the Pacific Northwest in 2008 with her husband and three children aboard their Stevens 47, Totem. Their sabbatical plans morphed into an open-ended adventure, with 48 countries/territories visited while putting over 60,000 miles under the keel – so far! Raising children as citizens of the world, Behan is passionate about sharing her experiences to inspire others to chase the blue horizon. She’s cruising the Pacific side of Mexico, and keeping plans for the South Pacific simmering. You can find out more about Behan at her website Sailing Totem.

Judy Hildebrand cut her teeth sailing in Hawaii. From there she started making passages to Seattle, BVI’s, the Bahamas. She’s crossed both the North and South Atlantic numerous times. She loves the ever changing moods, the challenges and the honesty found at sea. Judy is a highly sought after professional captain and has been delivering boats for many years, with tens of thousands of miles under her keel.
